The 1984 Subaru model lineup included the DL, GL, GL-10, and RX models. The DL and GL models were offered in both sedan and wagon body styles, while the GL-10 and RX models were only available as sedans.
The DL and GL models were powered by a 1.6L horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine that produced 73 horsepower and 81 lb-ft of torque. The GL-10 had a turbocharged version of the same engine that produced 94 horsepower and 110 lb-ft of torque. The RX model had a larger 1.8L engine that produced 84 horsepower and 100 lb-ft of torque.
All models came standard with a five-speed manual transmission, with a four-speed automatic available as an option. The GL-10 and RX models also had an optional electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission.
Standard features on all models included power brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, and a fold-down rear seat. The GL-10 and RX models had additional features such as air conditioning, power windows and locks, and a digital dashboard.
The 1984 Subaru models had good fuel efficiency, with the DL and GL models achieving 28 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. The GL-10 and RX models had slightly lower fuel efficiency due to their turbocharged engines.
